The World Bank Group Returns to Wharton Blog

The Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Knowledge&Wharton welcomed World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030 Agenda Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin for what has become an invaluable annual interaction between Dr. Mohieldin, students and faculty from across Wharton and the University, and an ever increasing number of sustainable development practitioners and experts from around the world.

Representatives from over 17 countries joined the conversation. This year’s Guest Lecture and Global Knowledge Exchange was entitled “Sustainable Development Finance, Current Trends and Maximizing Impact” and gave the students, faculty, and virtual attendees a glimpse into the groundbreaking ways the World Bank Group is leveraging cutting edge innovation and technology, impact investing, and localization to finance the Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Mohieldin concluded by connecting these activities directly to Ideas for Action and SDGs&Her, reiterating the World Bank’s support for the two initiatives he co-chairs, jointly with Dr. Petkoski at the Wharton School.

After the presentation Dr. Mohieldin engaged in a lively Q & A session and answered questions from several of the over 17 countries represented virtually, as well as the graduate and undergraduate students and faculty in attendance. This multilateral Global Knowledge Exchange brought out a number of fascinating learning points that challenged everyone involved to reflect deeply on incredibly complicated, yet crucial, issues.
